Crime Catch host Maricela Hernandez was born and raised in South Texas. In 1999 she graduated from high school and moved to San Antonio to attend the University of Texas at San Antonio. While in college Maricela was a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America and an active volunteer in the San Antonio community. Maricela worked part time through college and held jobs in promotions, modeling and childcare. Maricela knew that childcare had nothing to do with her degree but working with children for four years was absolutely her favorite part time job.
In 2001, Maricela represented San Antonio in the JC Penney Designer Hispanic Model Search where she competed in Dallas and was selected top 5 in the nation. She was also an entertainment journalism intern for a San Antonio Express-News journalist in 2002. In 2003, she earned her degree in Communications with a minor in business and has used that degree to gain experience in business development, public relations, marketing and sales.
Maricela’s passion has always been action through creativity and she believes strongly in expressing yourself and always fighting for change. Her passion reflects her past endeavors in that she was an outreach coordinator in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Before moving to Houston Maricela was the Marketing Associate for Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio where her job was instrumental in acquiring funds to fight to eliminate poverty and make low-income housing available to those in need. Maricela’s dream though has always been to utilize her experiences and talent to somehow make the environment safer for the children growing up in our world today.
In 2006, Maricela moved to Houston where she worked as a radio sales executive but felt the need to jump back into community oriented projects. Maricela always finds time to express herself through her art and writing. Maricela loves to draw, paint, write and run in her spare time. Maricela hopes that her decision and efforts to support the Crime Catch cause will inspire citizens to work together with Crime Catch to make a difference in Houston and the surrounding areas.
